About the Course
Every midwife, regardless of setting or scope, must be ready to safely manage an unexpected breech birth. It’s not a matter of if—but when.
In this 4-CEU course, Emergency Breech Birth—a self-paced, midwife-led workshop adapted from a live seminar—you’ll learn:
The mechanism and physiology of breech birth and how to recognize normal versus abnormal progress
Hands-off and hands-on techniques for supporting spontaneous and assisted breech deliveries
Effective strategies to diagnose and resolve breech dystocia in real time
How to document and communicate decision-making under pressure
Guidance from experienced midwives who have attended unplanned breech births in both home and hospital settings
Breech presentations occur in 3–4% of term pregnancies, and up to 35% go undetected until labor—meaning tens of thousands of U.S. births each year present unexpectedly. No matter how skilled your palpations or how often you scan, breech will find its way into your practice.
This course ensures that when it does, you’ll be calm, competent, and ready.
