In community birth, midwives care for two patients—the birthing person and the baby. Assessing fetal well-being is a critical skill that requires precision, practice, and ongoing refinement.
This 4-CEU course, Fetal Heart Tones—a focused, midwife-led workshop, provides practical, evidence-based training to strengthen your ability to monitor fetal health and respond appropriately during labor.
In this course, you’ll learn to:
Use fetal monitoring equipment safely and maintain it for accurate assessment
Establish baselines, assess variability, and recognize the four types of decelerations
Determine when and how often to listen and document findings defensively
Communicate fetal status effectively, including when transport or escalation is needed
Implement strategies for team-based care in community and birth center settings
